Welcoming the New Year: 2026

Happy New Year!

I wish you a year filled with blessings.

Did you know that many people abandon their New Year’s resolutions on what’s called Quitters Day? Quitters Day is the second Friday of January.

New Year's resolutions are sometimes unrealistic, and that is one reason they are broken. Sticking to a resolution can be difficult, but the following strategies may help.

Strategies to Maintain New Year’s Resolutions

  1. Be clear and specific about your goals.
  2. Know why your resolutions are important to you.
  3. Don’t get discouraged, and forgive yourself if you do mess up.
  4. Establish a habit.
  5. Keep track of what’s working or not.

The website above offers more ways to help you keep your New Year’s resolutions.

Here’s a bonus tip:

Pick goals you really want, and not what you think you should have.

We often choose some of the most common resolutions. However, there are some unique ones, such as the ones below.

Unique Resolutions

  1. Create a happiness list and do one thing from the list daily.
  2. Learn ways to remember other people’s names.
  3. Give one compliment a day, and be specific.
  4. Talk less, listen more.
  5. Try a new recipe once a month.

New Year’s Celebrations

New Year’s celebrations can be a wonderful tradition, from hosting gatherings to going out dancing. Long ago were the days when musicians would show up at my parents’ doorstep and perform on New Year’s Day, with a great voice, a violin, a ukulele, and other instruments.

Again, Happy New Year!
