Confronting our Pain

Mar 10, 2023 by Elvira Burgo

At one point, I confronted reality and dealt with the situation alone.  But it had to be done.  Sure, it hurt, but I didn’t let it consume me.  Instead, I accepted the situation and moved on with my life.

Yet, the experience taught me much.  And that is the beauty of it all.

I came to the understanding that life was more than my mistake.  One wrong decision does not define me.  I knew what mattered and focused on those things.  I can’t erase that part of my life and wouldn’t want to.  I also learned to be more accepting of life’s ups and downs.

An important lesson was that I could be myself despite everything.

I smile, I laugh, and I dance.

I have a zest for life and a great love for people.

Above all, I got the inspiration to write the original beginning of this article:

Sometimes in life, we must confront that which hurts.  We must not run away from our pain or neglect our bodies.

Life won’t always be easy. But if we survive our circumstances, we’ll come out all right on the other side.

Because

The world is a beautiful place.

Just look at the vast, immense sky and the birds that fly by.

Many years ago, I wrote poems on the world’s beauty, but they got lost.  And that’s okay (maybe they weren’t meant to be shared).  Later, I tried to recapture some of my poetry writing, but I still needed something to come close to what I wrote before.

I am neither a poet nor aspire to become one, but occasionally, I share some of what transpires.

Here’s a piece:

We must not forget the beauty of the world

However tumultuous life can be

There’s hurt and pain

But roses are plenty and varied

And so is the super bloom in the desert

About the world’s beauty, someone long ago told me that not everything in life was beautiful.  That there was suffering in it.  Over the years, I have seen unpleasant things, but I still maintain that it is a beautiful world.

Beauty is a gift.

“…For without pain, there can be no pleasure.  Without sadness, there can be no happiness. Without misery, there can be no beauty.”
