Meet Jordyn Curet

Oct 23, 2022 by Elvira Burgo

An interview with Jordyn Curet (model, actress, and singer)

I had the pleasure of interviewing Jordyn Curet, a talented young actress who started performing at the age of 18 months.  Jordyn appeared in numerous roles and currently plays the role of Shamiah on Home Economics, an ABC sitcom.

Jordyn, thank you for taking time off your busy schedule to be here.  You are my first guest, and I feel honored.

Thank you.  I appreciate you selecting me.

You brought joy to my face when I previewed your television clips.  Before we dig deeper into the topic of joy, I would like to begin with your earlier years.  What were you like as a young child?

I was very friendly and outgoing but also very driven.  My parents tell stories of when I would go on auditions when I was two and three years old.  I would say, “of course, they will select me.”

Who named you Jordyn?

My mother named me after the daughter of special friends of hers.

A person’s name is very special.  When someone thinks of Jordyn, what do you think they see?

Happiness and joy.

How would you describe yourself?

Intelligent, polite, and driven.

You played many roles, and I don’t know where to begin.  Let’s start with “Home Economics.”  What does it feel like to live in a cramped loft with many children?

LOL.  Fortunately, we have only filmed a couple of scenes in the loft.  It is very tight.  For season 3, we are staying at Uncle Connor’s house after our apartment floods.

I enjoyed the scene where you jumped for joy with grandma bucks.  What was that episode like?

It was so much.  The writers do a great job coming up with scenes that are enjoyable to film.

On the Disney channel’s “Raven’s home,” you appeared very confident.  And you made me laugh hysterically.  It’s been so long since I watched a kid show.  Where did that confidence come from?

It is just natural.  I have always felt comfortable being on set or doing a photo shoot.

You like comedy because you enjoy laughing.  What makes you happy?

Life.  I work very hard but also realize I live a blessed life.

Your ability to make people laugh is indeed a gift.  You founded a nonprofit organization called “Jordyn’s Joy.”  Please explain what “Jordyn’s Joy” is about.

It was very important for me to give back to society.  “Jordyn’s Joy” is the name I came up with for all these efforts.  My next big project is a fundraiser for the Ronald McDonald House of Los Angeles.

Your Ronald McDonald event is coming up later this month; how can people get involved or support your cause?

People can donate at this link.

You are passionate about many things.  I was touched by your song, “Lift Me Up.” You feel strongly about bullying.  What do you want to communicate to the world?

Bullying has long been accepted as a “part of growing up” in our society.  We need to change this.  It really hurts the victims.

You wrote and co-produced the song.  What was the experience like?  And what did you learn?

This was my first musical effort.  I learned so much.  I want to thank my mentor and voice coach.

Do you have time for a couple more questions?

Of course!

What is the best part of acting?

Playing different roles.  I love demonstrating the ability to play different characters.

I was thrilled to hear you say school comes first.  Math is your favorite subject; what is it about math that you like?

Early on, I struggled with math.  I am very proud of the fact that I was able to improve and make it my top class.

Usually, I found that students in the classroom liked reading but disliked math, or vice versa.  Do you like reading?

I love reading.  I often read scripts for my scenes and find joy in them.

What’s your favorite book, and why is it your favorite?

I love Five Feet Apart.  It’s a beautiful novel, and the movie was amazing.

If there’s one thing you can do to make the world a better place, what would it be?

Fight back against hate, which shows up in different forms.

That’s wonderful, Jordyn.  Who do you look up to?  And why is that?

My parents.  They provide me with great guidance.  In the acting world, my role model is Zendaya.

Parents make many sacrifices.  When was the last time you thanked your mom and dad?

I thank them every day.

Can you describe a teacher who made a difference in your life?  What is it about the teacher that impressed you the most?

A favorite teacher of mine has always been kind and adapting to my acting schedule.  She has taught me different lessons through projects and enjoyable learning.

Was there ever a performance that surprised you in a good, huge way?

I went to a Bruno Mars concert that blew my mom and me away.  I loved his stage presence.

Along with acting and singing, you want to be a fashion designer when you grow up.  Why fashion design?

I love clothes!  Designing fashion is another way to express yourself.

You are an exceptional young girl.  Keep up the fine work.  Is there anything you would like to add to our conversation?

I would encourage all your readers to pursue their dreams.  Reach for the stars!

Wow!  Well done, Jordyn.  Thank you for the opportunity to interview you.  Good luck with your future endeavors. I look forward to hearing great things from you.

Thank you.

Something to think about…

In what ways has Jordyn inspired you?

I hope you found this article useful.

Thank you.
