Elvira’s Book Club Celebrates National Book Month

Happy National Book Month!

If you haven’t noticed, books are a big part of my life, so Elvira’s Book Club is celebrating National Book Month with a themed luncheon, “With Bells On,” that signals humor and fun.

Patty, our gracious hostess, has shared her joy of reading as a child and as an adult. At last year’s  Christmas pajama party, she enthusiastically read a Christmas story and welcomed my reading of Autumn’s Adventure with Daddy: A Tale of Beauty and Happiness.

She reached out about the book club and is thrilled that, after many years, non-readers have become interested in reading. Although Patty loves physical books, she believes that reading doesn’t have to involve holding a book and flipping pages. “We can listen to stories on our tablets or audiobooks while driving and involve those who speak another language,” she said.

Her enthusiasm and love of books reflect the National Book Foundation's spirit. In 2003, the National Book Foundation established October as National Book Month to demonstrate the value of writing, reading, and literature. The month also honors the country’s greatest authors and books and encourages reading and family time.

So, with cowbells and bells on our fingers and toes, we will dance to Patty’s vinyl records, discuss our current read, and share food and our favorite childhood books. I hope you'll join me in keeping the joy of reading alive, and maybe start your own book club.

Take care,

Elvira
